The Libertine

Two productions presented in repertoire in 1994 : the premiere of Stephen Jeffreys’ The Libertine, about the 2nd Earl of Rochester, notorious rake and libertine poet in the Court of Charles II; and a revival of George Etherege’s restoration comedy The Man of Mode whose protagonist, the rake Dorimant, may have been inspired by the same man.

PERFORMANCES

The Man of Mode and The Libertine were first performed, in a production by Out of Joint, at the University of Warwick Arts Centre on 20 October 1994 and then on tour, culminating at the Royal Court Theatre, London, on 6 December 1994.
