Out of Joint, in asscoation with The Drillhall, presents
Sisters, Such Devoted Sisters
by Russell Barr 2004
Drag Queen Bernice Hindley – “Myra’s niece” – pulls you into a secret city. Meet her fucked-up friends and family: Violent trannies, self-combusting grannies, Jack Russells driving cars…
At its heart, there’s a sickening crime story from Glasgow’s gay underworld. But it’s just part of Russell Barr’s funny, touching show about a young man blowing up pigeons, shoplifting, and making an unlikely identity for himself.
REVIEWS
‘Riotously funny… an observant writer and a compelling performer’
-Daily Telegraph
‘Macabre, yet also very funny, blending bitchy banter, acute observation and touches of the surreal… and as sour-sweet as sherbet lemons’
-The Times
‘A rich stew of a show that has the steamy stench of a dark Jacobean comedy… hilarious, excoriating and intensely moving’
-The Guardian
‘An astonishingly well-judged performance… sometimes shocking, sometimes funny, and always delivered with compelling vividness’
-Time Out
