Since 2012, Out of Joint has run an Associate University Programme. The programme has been designed to build and strengthen our relationship with universities by providing opportunities to collaborate and learn – and even develop new work. For instance, research and development work with Hertfordshire University led to the development of Rebecca Lenkiewicz play Jane Wenham: The Witch of Walkern about witch trials in early 18th century rural Hertfordshire, which was toured nationally by Out of Joint in 2015.
The Associate University programme offers two workshops a year (one with Artistic Director Kate Wasserberg and one with an associate of Out of Joint) and one week-long mentoring internship at the office and in rehearsals for a set fee of £1000 per year. Recent Associate Universities are the universities of Hertfordshire, Hull, Lincoln, Warwick and Essex, Trinity College Dublin, Sheffield Hallam and the Danish National School of Performing Arts.
If you are interested in joining Out of Joint’s Associate University Programme and you would like any more information about this unique opportunity with the company, please contact Gina Abolins, Education Administrator – [email protected] or call us on 0207 609 0207
About Out of Joint:
Inquisitive, epic, authentic and original: Out of Joint develops and tours entertaining theatre that broadens horizons and investigates our times. Under the company’s founding director Max Stafford-Clark, we have premiered plays from established writers including April De Angelis, Sebastian Barry, Richard Bean, Alistair Beaton, Caryl Churchill, David Edgar, David Hare, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Robin Soans and Timberlake Wertenbaker; launched the careers of others such as Mark Ravenhill and Stella Feehily; and staged bold revivals.
We co-produce with the country’s most exciting theatres, and our work has been seen on six continents. Our most recent production, Consent by Nina Raine, played in an acclaimed, sold-out co-production at the National Theatre; last year our staging of Samuel Beckett’s radio play All That Fall, for which theatre-goers wore blindfolds, transferred to the West End.
Out of Joint recently welcomed new Artistic Director, Kate Wasserberg. Kate founded Cardiff’s The Other Room in 2014; two years later it was named Fringe Theatre of the Year by The Stage. We look forward to sharing Kate’s work with you.
