A message from Max Stafford-Clark:
Thank you for considering joining our Friends scheme. It is an opportunity for you to become more involved in the life of Out of Joint (with invitations to exclusive events), as well as providing vital support to help us keep touring the sharpest new writing.
We are more reliant than ever on your support. A new play can take a year or more to develop, often involving an extensive research and rehearsal process with the writer and actors. Touring new work is expensive, but small contributions make a big difference: £60 hires a costume for a week; a donation of £125 pays for an actor’s accommodation for a week on tour.
Since Out of Joint was founded in 1994, we have produced world premieres by such writers as Caryl Churchill, Timberlake Wertenbaker and Richard Bean; commissioned extraordinary and headline-grabbing documentary theatre by David Hare and Robin Soans; and introduced thrilling new writers including Mark Ravenhill and Stella Feehily.
We tour from London to Leicester, Southampton to South Shields, from major playhouses to community centres, and our work has been enjoyed as far away as Bombay, Moscow, New York, Sydney, Calcutta, Toronto, Cairo and Tel Aviv. Our popular education programme has given over 700 workshops to school and university students on new writing. It is vital that we can continue to take risks by developing new plays of scale and ambition, which are fearless in grappling with the biggest issues.
Please join us.
